MEET THE TEAM

  • Tom - That Dog Guy

I am a CPDT-KA Accredited Dog Trainer & behaviourist. I’m also a member of the International Society of Animal Professionals and Emergency Canine First Aid Certified.

I love and understand dogs and thus believe in ethical, positive training and interaction with your dog. Dogs after all are domesticated animals with brains thought to be on par with a 2-3 yr old child and like a child they need us to teach them and support them. I have thus made it my job to help you communicate with your dog and be there for them when you can't.

  • Leyla - Walker, Assistant Trainer, Administrator

Leyla’s passion for animals has been a lifelong journey, starting from her early years. Over time, she had the joy of owning a variety of pets (from dogs to rabbits to budgies and gerbils), and Leyla’s adventurous spirit led her to attempt a pet-sitting business at the age of 11 – though, “admittedly, £2 per day wasn't the epitome of entrepreneurial genius.”

Driven by her love for animals, she has transitioned into a career that feels more like a fulfilling vocation than a job. Leyla take pride in caring for your beloved dogs as if they were her own.

Looking forward, her aspirations include venturing into the world of dog training. She is excited about the prospect of further contributing to the well-being and development of our canine companions.

I am excited to see if his overwhelming success in previous careers can be achieved with dogs too….watch this space!

  • Sophie- Trainer, Walker & Apprentice Behaviourist

I’m Sophie and I have a Level 3 Diploma in Canine Care, Behaviour and Welfare. Currently, I am studying for my Level 5 Diploma in  Advanced Animal Behaviour, whilst joining That Dog Guy as an apprentice to ensure I can continue to learn and have enough time for my studies and my own Malinois/ Dutch Shepherd who has taught me the critical importance of consistency, dedicated training, breed-specific enrichment, confidence building, and calm, respectful leadership. Adopting him at eight months old, I empathize with many challenges owners face during adolescence, particularly with high-drive dogs. I have dealt with, and am currently dealing with, frustration-based dog reactivity. This experience has established a strong sense of empathy towards dog owners, as I understand their daily struggles and frustrations firsthand. My journey with my own dog has only strengthened my resolve to improve the quality of life for dogs and their owners. It has deepened my understanding of the unique needs of rescue dogs and fuelled my drive to be a confident dog advocate and leader.

  • Assistants

We have a number of part time assistants who get to know all the dogs on the group walks, learn from us and are thus sometimes available for your extra requests like solo walks and sitting.

    Assistant’s include:

Robert: a successful cameraman mainly for the BBC. I have known him a long time and thus he kindly helps assisting the groups but we also couldn’t waste that talent so we force an iphone into his hand every now and then for training videos and that sort of jazz.

Gina: After a successful career in the charity sector she joins us on her current career break.

Brian: A semi retired business consultant who loves joining us for the group walks and will offer day sitting and 121 walks.

  • Ellie - Assistant Trainer & Cover Walker

Ellie has been training and assisting Tom and the team since the beginning of 2021 in conjunction with doing a course in dog behaviour at the CIDBT (Cambridge Institute of Dog Behaviour and Training).

Ellie states every work day is a joy with the dogs whether it’s taking a new group of puppies out on their first walk or helping an older rescue dog with reactive issues and seeing how far he has come. She can’t believe that she finally gets to work with one of the loves of her life on a daily basis.

She has two dogs, Lurchers, and she loves her clients almost as mush as her own!.

Ellie hopes to continue studying whilst working and carry on to achieve an accreditation from the CCPDT once she has complete my current course.

Ellie has also completed the Emergency Canine First Aid Course.

  • Karen - Account Manager

Karen has been with That Dog Guy from the early days initially starting as a walker whilst also working as a therapist. She now heads up the invoicing side of things but I’m delighted to say you won’t keep her from walking some of the dogs too! :)
